To mute Jaws temporarily Press Insert V. Then press the END key which should take you to the Speech Synthesiser on setting as the last setting in the list. To avoid confusion this is the E N D key and not the letter N which can be sometimes misheard as END. Now press Space to turn speech setting off and then press the enter key to exit verbosity settings. To return to speech press Insert V again and Jaws will start talking. You can also assign a keyboard shortcut key to the mute function in Keyboard manager. Let me know if you want to know how to do this.
