Hi Lisa, You might be more familiar with this folder from your start menu.
If you press start, then d for documents, you first land on My Documents, but below that are links to all the documents that you've opened recently in there. Following that, all those files, as someone has already mentioned, are shortcuts to the respective files they belong to. For example, if you opened a text file somewhere on your hard drive, the shortcut to that file will appear on that list and folder of recent documents. If you delete the text file, the shortcut will still be there, but it will point to the old location on your hard drive, and so, when you go to open it, Windows will try to look for it, but if it doesn't find it, you'll get an error. As I said, these are only shortcuts, so you can feel free to delete them without worrying about deleting the actual file.
