No. The upgrades pertain to your protection, virus, firewall...
It's a setting you have to change. Did you let the firewall wizard do all
the settings for you when you installed? You can always go into the menus
and have it do it again at any time.
In regards to the email issue maybe it's the plug in that is hanging you up.
I have mine disabled the plug in I mean..

That sounds like a firewall issue regarding blocked emails. I would
check
your settings for your firewall and make sure the block is not selected.
There are 3 choices...allow all, block, stand alone computer*this is the
one
I have mine set on*
Open the AVG from your desktop and when the list of components are given
arrow down to firewall and enter on it and tab across to see what your
firewall settings are. Did you when you installed it accept all the
defaults?
