You need to change the cell's format to date. This can be accomplished with 
control+number 1.

I just brought up that worksheet, and put in todays' date, using the
control-semicolon keystroke. The date read as it should, when inserted. When
read back, it read as a different formula, altogether.

3/1/06 = 39873

Something is turned on that shouldn't be, and I'd love to know what it is.
