Hi cliff,

I had a similar problem when using multiple worksheets in Excel.

On my third worksheet, every time I entered a date using slashes, the resulting date read by Jaws was somewhere around 1900. It was not the same problem you had with your dates,

I had to open up a new book and typed the date there and format it to display what I was looking for. I then copied that date and pasted it in the third worksheet.

I got around this problem by doing the same thing you did. I created a fourth worksheet and made all my entries there. I deleted the third worksheet and the fourth one became the new third one.

I tried everything to correct the problem in the original third worksheet, but I couldn't make it work. I have no idea how this problem can be solved other then creating a new worksheet. Apparently, the format in a cell just cannot be changed once you establish the date format. Weird, I know!

I inserted a fresh worksheet into the book that I'm working with. My dates came out exactly as they should.

I don't understand, however, why there should be this change from regular date notation to the internal numeration on the third sheet. Can someone shed any light on this for me?

=Today() or =Now() if you want the time as well as the date. Hope that
helps.

I was attempting to rename a sheet last night in Excel 2007. Since I could
not find this option in the ribbons, I was reading through the Excel help
regarding sheets. I still could not find this option in the ribbons, so I
used the JAWS cursor to find and right click on the sheet tab. Anyway, it
was clear in the help pages that Excel's default for a new document is to
use a template with 3 sheets. Perhaps the default template has different
cell formatting on the third sheet? If so, it should be easy to open the
default template, delete the third sheet, insert a new sheet based on one of

the first two sheets and save as the default template.

You need to change the cell's format to date. This can be accomplished
with
control+number 1.

Hello, again:

I just brought up that worksheet, and put in todays' date, using the
control-semicolon keystroke. The date read as it should, when inserted.
When
read back, it read as a different formula, altogether.

3/1/06 = 39873

Something is turned on that shouldn't be, and I'd love to know what it is.

Cliff,

I don't really understand what your problem is. I have a question for
you.
How come the date is shown with dashes instead of slashes? You have
2-6-09
whereas I normally use 2/6/09.

Are you saying that the date and the number that represents the date is
in
your cell? I went into Excel and typed your first date and when I did a
Ctrl+F2 on that cell, the result was 39850, but that number is the
formula
for the date which is not displayed with the date. I am wondering if
there
is some feature in Excel that displays the formula with the data? .

Is there something turned on that I should pull the plug on?

I'd appreciate any help anyone can offer.
