If there's a password on the router, that's not a bad thing, that's actually good because it prevents unauthorised users from accessing your home network from the outside. As for this particular issue, check to see if there are newer drivers for your wireless card.

I know on Vista you sometimes have to configure your Firewall to allow it.
I have a question, "Is there a password or something on the router"? I also
have a netgear router. Everything is connected but it asks me for a
password. Do you know what the problem might be?

Subject: [Blind-Computing] computer on wireless network keeps losing
connection

Hello everyone,

I just hooked up a home wireless network. I have XP Pro and hooked up a
NETGEAR WGR614v9 router. The computer that is connected wirelessly keeps
losing connection. I can go on the internet or get my Email, but then it
loses connection and I have to reboot the computer to get connected again.

Any ideas on what setting I might be missing or what I need to do to keep
this from happening?

Thanks,

Ken
