As in if they ask me if they can check their webmail, I will turn off jaws etc., but aside from that, they don't honestly get to do much more than have me show them things, or copy things for them, etc., and if someone like my mother asks me to help her with something on her computer, I'll either just give her a quick answer, or do something like plug my portable NVDA flash drive in and look into it myself, etc.
Other 'funny' one is to boot some sighted person's computer up from my bootable Ubuntu vinux flash drive, since they then don't even recognise their own computer, but that's more of a joke I might play on them, etc.

I don't understand how anybody with sight can realistically use JAWS. Most users primarily use the mouse, and causes all sorts of difficulties as JAWS constantly takes control of the focus. Browsing the web is probably the worst. My now grown children have never been able to use my computer with JAWS running. Furthermore, I can not even install JAWS on their computers because some of their games do not work with the JAWS display drivers installed.*Don Marang*Vinux Software Development Coordinator - vinuxproject.org <http://www.vinuxproject.org/> There is just so much stuff in the world that, to me, is devoid of any real substance, value, and content that I just try to make sure that I am working on things that matter.-- Dean Kamen On 7/7/2011 1:29 PM, Jacob Kruger wrote:I pretty much only turn off jaws etc. if the person wants to use internet explorer etc. since it will interfere with keystrokes, etc., but aside from that, if they want to use my computer, bummer if they don't want to hear it jabbering away...<smile>Stay well Jacob Kruger Blind Biker Skype: BlindZA '...fate had broken his body, but not his spirit...'----- Original Message ----- From: "ROSEMARIE CHAVARRIA" <knitqueen2...@verizon.net>To: <blind-computing@jaws-users.com> Sent: Thursday, July 07, 2011 6:27 PM Subject: Re: [Blind-Computing] startup menue in W7Hi, Jacob,The only sighted nephew who doesn't turn off my screen reader is Lucas. Sometimes you even have to be careful with some family members. One time I had a sighted nephew work on my computer and when I asked him what he was doing, he wouldn't tell me. He never put porn sites on my computer or anything like that but it still bugs me when they don't tell you what they're doing.Rosemarie----- Original Message ----- From: "John Justice" <john_just...@verizon.net>To: <blind-computing@jaws-users.com> Sent: Wednesday, July 06, 2011 4:12 PM Subject: Re: [Blind-Computing] startup menue in W7A funny computer related incident occurred when I let a so-called friend usemy computer to check his e-mail. I'm mentioning this because it could easily happen to anyone using a computer, who is blind.I had a rehearsal and was bringing up the words to a song when my singer started laughing hysterically. I asked what was going on and she told me.After the computer was running for about five minutes, a picture of awoman's breasts appeared with a link below it that said, "To see more, click here!" I was very embarrassed to say the least.Apparently, my so-called friend had been visiting one of the X rated web sites on my computer and picked up some kind of malware. That is the verylast time I will ever let him use my computer.I scanned the system, performing a full scan which takes hours but themalware was removed. The moral of this story is, be careful who you allow to use your computer, especially when you can't see what they're doing. To fix this There's afew solutions: 1. Start Menu: a. Activate the Start button b. then go to All Programs, c. Then go to Startup.d. Right-click the game in the Startup folder e. Select Delete to remove itfrom the Startup folder. 2. MSCONFIG Settings: a. Hold the Windows key and press R to open the Run window. b. Type "msconfig" and press "Enter". c. Click the "Startup" tab. d. Uncheck any startup program you don't want to run during startup. e. Click "OK". You can then choose to restart your computer immediately or later. 3. The Program Itself:a. Either you or your youngin' open the program you wish to disable fromrunning at startup. b/ Look for its Options or Preferences.c. Browse through these options for an option to "Run Program at Startup."Disable it.
