I've been trying to use the Roots Web site looking for information that I have been told is there but for some reason I can't find it. How exactly does one go about looking for a certain family tree on there? ----- Original Message ----- From: "karen schrade" <kschr...@sbcglobal.net>

jerry, the rootsweb site and the familysearch site definitely have info for
other countries. for the genweb site, there is also a world genweb. if you
google it, you'll find it and then can pick the country. karen

Karen:

Regarding the links that you suppliedLois, do you know if any of these
websites would have information from European countries such as Hanover
Germany? Thanks. Jerry

Hi Lois, If you are looking for online records, There are several really
helpful free family tree websites. these are screen reader friendly:
the u. s. genweb.

http://www.usgenweb.org/

if you go to that site, you'll find a list of states. enter on the state
you
want and you'll get the counties lists. some counties have more
information
than others.

You can also check out rootsweb. it's free and you can search for your
relatives names, narrowing it to places as well through the advanced
search.

http://www.rootsweb.com

they have hundreds of mailing lists for surnames and places. if you know
where your relative lived, you can find a mailing list for that place and
search for the name.
They also have lots of user contributed family trees. if you're lucky, you
may find a distant cousin. that's called World Connect.

then, you can check out the LDS genealogy site:

http://www.familysearch.org

if you type into the search box the name, first and last, then the place,
and narrow it to time, i. e. 1900 to 1930,, you will get lots of hits.
then, you can narrow that by birthplace, europe or us, death place,
the same, birth year, 1700s, 1800s, 1900s etc. you may find more than you
imagined. I've had very good luck with the family search site lately.
It's
a bit tricky to get used to but it's definitely doable.

good luck. If you have other questions about genealogy and screen
readers,
i'd be happy to try to help off list. karen

Are there any family tree web sites that don't charge an arm and leg?
Thanks
for the help in advance.
