Hi Pete. 1. No, it isn't necessary to re-format a hard drive when switching from XP to Windows 7. Both of these programs are simply operating systems. They help you access and manage other programs and files. There are times when an incompatibility might arise if your switching from a 32 bit to a 64 bit system but other than that, no formatting of other files is necessary.
2. Once you purchase the Windows 7 disk, you can load the same program on several machines. I believe that the maximum on some Microsoft products is three copies but I don't know if that applies to Windows 7. Must a person reformat a hard drive before converting from XP to 7? 2. If I have already purchased a version of Windows 7 which I have installed on a laptop, can I use that same CD to upgrade my desktop or must I buy another copy of Windows 7?
