Well there are two ways. First, the drive is very small compared to a HDD. Only 2.5 inches wide and I'm guessing no more than a quarter to a third of an inch thick. So, if the cover was off your computer you certainly could feel it. Second way is I went to device manager and looked under disk drives. My model # is listed followed by the letters SSD rather than HDD. You also won't' hear and hard drive activity when reading or writing data and it boots extre3mely fast, about 20 seconds and JAWS is talking
Hope this helps Al -----Original Message----- From: Blind-Computing [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of David Ferrin Sent: Sunday, January 06, 2013 12:19 PM To: [email protected] Subject: Re: [Blind-Computing] defragging Honestly since I have never owned such an animal it would only be a guess so I will differ to somebody who does own such a drive. Alan Robins has a solid state drive so he might know. -----Original Message----- From: Blind-Computing [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of Bob W Sent: Sunday, January 06, 2013 12:01 PM To: [email protected] Subject: Re: [Blind-Computing] defragging Is there any way to tell if your hard drive is solid state? First of all it isn't necessary on a SSD and secondly, it prolongs the life of the hard drive if you don't run defrag. -----Original Message----- From: David Ferrin Sent: Sunday, January 06, 2013 8:54 AM To: [email protected] Subject: Re: [Blind-Computing] defragging I forgot that I wrote that, there is either too much on the server or my memory is going bad. From: David Ferrin Daily Tip: Disk Cleanup Defragmenting your computer periodically can greatly enhance the computer's performance. While helpful, all defragmenting does is tidy up what is on your computer; to get rid of unnecessary files such as temporary Internet files and whatever is in your Recycling Bin, run Disk Cleanup as well. Think of it this way: Defragmenting sweeps the floor and Disk Cleanup takes out the trash. Click Start, Control Panel, Performance And Maintenance (in Category view), and Free Up Space On Your Hard Disk. The Disk Cleanup will run automatically. Once the analysis is complete, simply follow the prompts. David Ferrin Take care.
