Speaking purely from theory I'm with Nick here. If there's little to no impact from an unethical action, it's still unethical (though whether or not people choose to take it anyway is outside my scope). If you purchased the game, you should have no guilt about making it possible for you to continue to play it. If you decide to pirate it and the developer returns, the first thing you should ethically do is officially purchase the game.
