Hi all,
I do want to make a point clear about Raceway which I hope settles the
issue once and for all about the graphics. I have never said anything
about removing the graphics from the actual game play although that
might need to be done if they are not complete or cause me extreme
troubles to put in. If at all possible I want those in as well.
However, the track editor, a completely different part of the engine, is
a graphical drawing tool for the tracks. It is unusable by me or any
other blind gamer. There are ways of redesigning it to be fully
accessible, or I can simply incorporate the tracks directly in to the
game. i haven't started work on Raceway, but the game clearly needs some
kind of redesign to be able to make the tracks.
One final note about graphics design. It is the hardest part of making a
game, and it is all to easy to suggest or want them, but it is much
harder to put in to reality. Why?
For starts graphics use a huge amount of math. We are talking a good
amount of calculus to have collision detection, emulate realistic
physical motion and movement, 3D calculations to place the images on the
screen, etc.... It is very complicated, and not something that can just
be whipped up like an audio game only.
To add to the troubles remember James North was paid for this work, and
not me. I would be doing the backbreaking work to have graphics with
little monitary gain. To me that doesn't seam fair. If I can get the
game out six months or a year earlier without graphics I think it is
worth it. Adding graphics could be a 2.0 upgrade or something like that.
