Lee, You know, you are absolutely correct. The sooner you fall behind the more time you have to catch up. I have not noticed that before. I am so glad I finally noticed it because, now, I will not try so hard to keep up. Might as well get it over with so I will have lots of time to play catch up! Wouldn't want to rush you know... (LOL) Now, as for the ice, Many little towns here in Okieland had ponds which would freeze fairly quick and that is where the ice would be cut from. Now, these are probably the same ponds the horses and cattle used for water but that is not of any importance. They did not allow the livestock to get into the water when a freeze was going to happen. Got to keep it sanitary you know. (LOL) In Oklahoma the amount of time one would have to cut the ice is really limited as we just do not have all that much weather near 0F. Ice was a rare commodity before the advant of modern refrigeration which started becoming fairly popular somewhere after WW II. The "lockers" where one could rent space to store one's frozen goods were really in the swing in the late Forties up into the mid Sixties. My Grandmother used an ice box for a long time. Actually, it was a very beautiful thing. It was made of wood and very nicely finished. It had 2 doors, one for the ice and the other for the food. Goodness, this brings back all manner of memories... (LOL) Cy, the Ancient Okie...

Many times they had ice up to July of the following year. today the last walls of the original ice house still stand. I think of that as I push a button on my refrigerator / freezer unit and select ice cubes .in this day and age many of us are spoiled by the ease of living.
