Well I do not know how simple you want it but most basements are pretty low ceilings. There froe you can touch the bulbs with your hand. If it is hot it is on. Crude, but you siad simple. Some days I can detect if the light is on but not all of the time. Years ago I had a neat smoke detector that screwed into a light socket and the bulb then screwed into this detector. The unit had rechargeable batteries. Whenever you turned on the light the unit would beep letting you know it was charging. I haven't seen any of them in years. Is there some alarm that will beep when the lights are turned on?
