can't comment on the actual job at hand but I'd highly suggest spending time
with a fretless before you unfret a bass of your own!

Yeah, the subject line says it all.
I'm a bassist and recently I've gotten such wild hairs, I have done 
all kinds of upgrading and swapping bass guitars. Now I have this 
incredibly crazy idea. I want to take a five-string Fender Jazz bass, 
remove the frets, fill -in the empty spaces and have me a fretless. 
So, if anyone has done this, I'd be curious how best to remove the 
frets, but more importantly, what would be a good filler. This is a 
Rosewood fingerboard.
