Scott, If the 1 by 2 is longer than what you need, you can clamp it down at both ends, then run the router between the clamps. Then cut off the ends. I would also lay another board along side the 1X2 so that the router shoe has something wide enough to sit on otherwise you may rock the router as you move it along.
