Some actually have this collar that you hook a tool into and you have  
to twist it in such a way, but if I recall clockwise that will  
actually let you remove the unit from the mounting assembly. If you  
don't do this, you may have problems getting at the srews. The screws  
hold the mounting assembly up against the underside of the sink. Oh,  
do get yourself some plumbers pudy to put around the flang of the  
drain. This will help prevent any potential leaking which I seem to  
always have whenever installing a drain.
