I think electrical tape is actually more expensive, and it is stiffer when wrapped like that. Also the adhesive tends to ooze in my experience so if the cable is to be handled it gets unpleasantly messy.
I might have specified that the teflon method might be best where the cable is to be handled or moved a lot. Tom fowle
