Ceiling height will be a bit tight, but not too bad.  At the edges of the 
basement, from the cement to the bottoms of the floor joists for the first 
floor, there was about 89 inches.  With the 2X4 on their flat, then 3/4 
inch plywood on top of that, there will be a bit under 87 inches from the 
plywood to the bottoms of the joists.  I hope to be able to put a 
suspended ceiling in, but as close to the joists as possible.  I'll 
probably lose another 3 or 4 inches that way.  So I expect to have just 
about seven feet, or an inche less of head 
room.  Pretty low ceilings, but not too bad.  I think I'll skip on any 
ceiling fans though.
