Ottawa Canada Dear Andrew and list:
Which keyboard you choose for your Mpower should be on the basis of what you feel the most comfortable using. If you are a good touch typist, you will probably find you can keyboard more text with a QT keyboard than with a BT keyboard. And you don't have to remember what key combination to use say for a backslash or other special character. However if you grew up using a Perkins Brailler and are a proficient grade two Braillist, you will probably be creating more Braille documents than text documents and may be more at home on a Brailler keyboard than a typewriter keyboard. My Mpower has a QT keyboard and I love it, and since I learned Braille later in life, I feel more at home with a typewriter-like keyboard. But I've used a Braille keyboard on my venerable Braille Lite 40 and it was great for entering notes in contracted Braille. But was a definite pain in the butt for entering text in a print document or online letter by letter. So think it over and try to decide if you will be creating more text or Braille documents and which sort of keyboard you feel most comfortable using. I believe the QT keyboard can be used to enter contracted Braille using the home row keys as if they were a Perkins Brailler keyboard but don't use this feature much. Also, if you have fine motor control problems or spasticity you may prefer the BT keyboard as it saves trying to push the right key. Hope this advice helps you choose the keyboard that is right for you, as an Mpower is a lot of money. Brian Brian K.
