Hi there,
Well, the first order of business is to
analyze the situation...
* Because the computer and PAC Mate
recognizes this thumb drive, we can safely
rule out file system problems - BrailleNote
and PAC Mate can only work with drives based
on FAT file systems.
* Since the thumb drive works on one
BrailleNote (after a Soft Reset) but not on
the other, it is probable that it is
something to do with driver issue. In the
oager days, the host computer must be
restarted first before the actual device can
be used. Since USB devices can be used
without a restart (or reset) of a computer,
this leads me to believe that it is something
to do with driver error with usbmsc.dll file.
* Since the BrailleNote that you have needed
a restart before the drive can be used, this
might indicate power delivery problem - where
not enough power was supplied to the USB
circuit, causing devices to be not recognized
until a reset has occured. When this
happens, the power management unit would
detect a new device and allocate power to it
(I know this is somewhat hard to explain; if
you remember electricity from physics, I'm
sure you'll understand it better).
* Maybe there might be differences between
two KeySoft versions - 7.2.47 versus 7.5.28.
Here are my suggestions:
* Try upgrading the student's notetaker to
KeySoft 7.5 build 28 and see if the thumb
drive is recognized.
* Try using the thumb drive on another
student's netetaker and see what happens.
* Try using another thumb drive (possibly
with a different brand) and see what happens.
Hope these suggestions help you solve this
problem.
Cheers,
Joseph

Subject: [Braillenote] usb thumb drive
Good evening, A student of mine has a 1 gig
Pny Usb thumb drive.
He is able to access files using the computer
and his Pac Mate.
However, his BrailleNote Mpower running KS
7.2 build 48 does not
recognize it. My BrailleNote Mpower running
KS 7.5 build 28 also
does not recognize it unless I do a reset
with the thumb drive in
the machine. What is our problem, and what
can we do about it?
