Yes, I did type on the apex, and noticed the keys to be quiter than on the 
Braillenote. I haven't used a Braillenote empower for awhile as I am using a 
pk. but if I remember correctly, the bn empower keys tended to be a little 
noisy. and so i do think the apex is quiter.

Thanks very much for this excellent description.  I was wondering, what did you 
think of the keyboard on the Apex, and were you able to judge whether it was 
quieter than that of the mPower?
