Hi Joseph,
In the future, for clarification purposes, could you reference the keystrokes involved, please? While reading your message below I wasn't sure whether you were talking about the 4-5-6 reset or the 1-2-3.

I have confirmed that the ROM reset is indeed destructive, but, having witnessed said destruction at least twice, I can tell you that a little preparation goes a long way toward reducing the hassle and saving you time in reinstalling those extensions. I put the dictionary and GPS installers in corresponding folders on an SD card, and, immediately after those resets, i copied each installer to the root of the SD card, removed the card and re-inserted it. The Apex saw them and reinstalled the extensions in a matter of just a few minutes.

I have heard that the decision to make this reset destructive was not without considerable controversy among HW staff. While the steps outlined above reduced this destructiveness to a mere inconvenience for me, other end-users may not see it that way, and I hope HW takes this into account some time in the future.

Tom

Subject: [Braillenote] Apex: Warning - DO NOT PERFORM ROM RESET AT WRONGTIMES!!!

Hi,
Just spoke to a list member who said that she lost her dictionary extension after performing ROM reset on her Apex. In order to have the extension back, you need to reinstall the extension in question. This is one of those that I
believe confuses people - the ROM Reset procedure between mPower and Apex
produces different results - under Apex, it erases the KeySoft extensions
and is more destructive than that of mPower. This is one of those reasons
why I've warned people not to carry out this procedure at wrong times and am
sort of afraid to give you the hack to changing system sounds.
Cheers,
Joseph
