Both of which I've tried.  I haven't actually erased BrailleNote's flash, but I

Me too.  I have the same suspicion.  It's the only other thing which might be 
different.  If it's true than iOS is using an extremely sloppy method of 
identifying the braille display.  I have already tried "Apex" as suggested by 
Humanware's documentation; no luck.  If anybody here has a BrailleNote with 
factory computer name, please report what it is.
