Dear Ann,

A "plain braille" file is similar to Duxbury's .brf generic braille file.

To export a file as a plain braille .brf, go to the file manager menu.
Choose the translation menu. Choose export document. You will be prompted
for the document's name and which drive you want to export it to.. You will
also be prompted for the "device". You would choose either "file" if you
are exporting it to a CompactFlash card or "serial" if you are exporting it
using the serial cable connected to your PC. You will be prompted for the
"file type". Cycle through the list of choices until you hear "plain
braille" file.

I would suggest that you experiment with a "test" document, one which is
about 2 or 3 braille pages. Open the file using DBT and check it first so
you can see how Duxbury handles it.

As I posted earlier, you can always connect your BN directly to the embosser
and set up the embossers so documents created by the BN will emboss the way
you want them to look. Use a "test" page, so that you can learn what your
embosser settings should be without using lots of paper and accidentally
ruining a "long" document.

My embosser will allow me to choose between three different settings so I
could emboss using 3 different computers without manually changing
everything. I just press b on the keypad and the setting for the BN is
loaded.

I hope these ideas help. If you have any questions, please let me know.

Subject: [Braillenote] types of braille files

: Hi all,
:
: I've been looking in the manual and I don't see anything about "plain
: braille" as opposed to braille created in keyword format. I have a BT
: keyboard here, and so the file is apparently in kwb format as it is
: typed. This is cool, no problem, but I think I am being blocked by
: terminology. Do you mean a braille text file?
