Hello List,

I noticed one thing the other day! I don't know why it never occurred to me till recently! I had to emboss a document. I put a microsoft word file in my BN. I then translated it to braille and saved it as a Keyword document. When I had the Monti translation in my unit, I noticed any number of formatting commands in my braille document. If I tried to emboss the document immediately after translating it to braille, the garbage from the formatting commands from the Microsoft Document would put garbage in my hard copy which meant nothing! I solved the problem by saving the document as a .rtf or .txt file, then translating that second file to braille. When I translated my recent document, I noticed I could translate right from the MSW file to a Keyword Braille file without the formatting command garbage in the file! How wonderful this is! I eliminated a step in the process and Duxbury is truly the best when translating something into braille! I had my work accomplished very quickly! Good work PDI!

Dear Isaac,

You are correct. Duxbury is the Cadillac in braille translation software
and the BrailleNote has a scaled-down version of Duxbury in it.

I have often said if people have a PC and they want to read their .brf
documents on their PC, they can copy the files from the BrailleNote to the
PC and read them with Duxbury.

They can also spiff up any braille documents they plan to emboss for other
blind people to read.

A person can also transfer files brailled using their PC and DBT to the BN.

But, I believe people going through the transcriber's course are not allowed
to use Duxbury or any other translation software. I don't know whether or
not people can email their lessons--I had to use snail mail, and what a
mess!

Duxbury supports foreign languages and I think that's why PDI changed from
Monty to Duxbury.

The full-fledged version supports Nemeth code and the British math code, but
the BN doesn't. DBT is wonderful and I think PDI was wise when they changed
to it.
