Hi, Bob and list. Bob, I see what you are saying, but the problem is that
only the email is affected and that not all of the time. I have
successfully downloaded amounts of email under 50 messages without a
problem. I have hung on messages at around 100, but usually, a retry will
get it eventually after a couple of tries.
I tried downloading email on Sunday morning at 171 messages and kept
getting errors. I did a reset three hours later and, although I hung once
or twice, I eventually downloaded 272 messages.
Everything else in 6.1 seems to work as far as I can tell. If you don't use
your bn to download email, go ahead and upgrade. If, like me, you only do
it occasionally just to see how it works, go ahead and upgrade because the
wireless is great. Web browsing works well. Connecting to the shared
ddrives on your network works pretty well except for an occasional lockup.
But, for the most part, the upgrade is good.
Perhaps we need to hear from 6.1 users where email is working fine for
them. Of course, we don't even know about the 6.1 users who don't subscribe
to this list and only PDI could tell us how many tech support calls they
are getting because of email problems. One user I talked to who has a bn
doesn't even use his on the net, so upgrading to 6.1 would only be a good
thing for him.
Also, as I mentioned in other messages, sending mail to the trash and
emptying the trash has been greatly improved with 6.1.
The word processor, planner, media player, scientific calculator, active
sync and other features are as good as they ever were, in my opinion.
But, if email is important to you, you can upgrade and see if it works for
you or wait for 6.1.1.

Hi, folks: I guess it's safe to say that the 6.1 upgrade has been, shall
we say, troublesome. Ie might even say "ill-fated." Until HumanWare comes
out with 6.11, There are certain steps which should be taken, which, I
think, would greatly help in soothing ruffled feathers, and which would
make great business sense. Here they 5:
1. Immediately halt the shipment of the 6.1 upgrade.
2. Send out an announcement, stating that, because of major issues, the
upgrade is being withdrawn for revision.
3. People, who have already received the upgrade, should be fully
apprised of these issues, and advised not to stall it until the new
version, 6.11, comes out.
4. From this point on, anyone who orders the upgrade should be sent
6.11. 5. When 6.11 is ready, everyone who has either received 6.1, or
who ordered it before these actions were taken, should receive the upgrade
on a CF card. (Optional) It might not be a bad idea to give these folks
one SMA.
While these steps may seem a bit drastic, I think they would do wonders,
in restoring confidence in this company, which, in my opinion, still makes
the best line of products around. Thanks, and God bless. Bob and Maxy-wax
