No, it is not my interpretation; I was pointing out how it was likely to be
interpreted, based on this list's history of responding to that kind of
statements.

No, you said:

"Uh-oh!

Of course you realise you are going to be flamed for implying that the Bush
Administration is not unlike the government of Nazi Germany..."

I'll be very clear here: You said that I had implied that the Bush administration is not unlike the government of Nazi Germany. Since I did not say that or imply it anywhere in my post, your statement that I had was your interpretation.

Jeroen, I'm not trying to be rude... I just wanted to make my intentions clear. I did not make any connections between my government and that of Nazi Germany in my post. You did.

I've said it before and I will say it again (although people will probably
just ignore it again): criticism of American policies does not equal
anti-Americanism.
I won't ignore it -- I haven't in the past, either. :)

You're right, of course, if you had held your criticisms of us to American policies then I wouldn't be judging you to be anti-American.

In last the couple of years, you've criticized American gov't domestic and foreign policy, the current (and previous) American president and the Republican party, the religious beliefs, morals and policies of at least one American religion, American cultural, legal and political attitudes towards a variety of subjects and badmouthed at least one American city's traffic, pollution and crime rate. (Ok, that last one doesn't say you're anti-American per se, but I took it personally. *grin*)

You're very outspoken about us. You have not restrained your negative comments about us to political concepts. I would be the first to admit that my country has flaws. Large, prominent flaws. But you're outspokenly negative about us often enough across so many topics that I don't think my assessment is inaccurate. When was the last time you spoke positively about America and Americans? (I'm honestly curious here... can you find an instance in the archives?)

However, the US was attacked by people from an other region of the world,
but many of the government's measures are directed against its own
population.
Yes, we were attacked by people who originated from another region of the world. But they were living here unnoticed (and illegally in some cases) for a period of time before they acted against us. They had homes, cars and went to school. They had false identities. They were regulars at strip clubs and banks and gas stations. So, IMO, a certain degree of cautiousness isn't a bad idea. I do have concerns about the current lengths my government is going to and I stated them in other posts earlier today.

I don't think turning the country into one huge police state is going to
prevent terrorist attacks coming from outside the country.
I answered my concerns about this in another post earlier... if you'd like, I'd be happy to reiterate 'em. :)
