Or as mundane as milk. I'm lactose intolerant, meaning my body lacks (or has a much lower
than normal amount of) lactaze enzyme, which is needed in the digestion of lactose. It is
really amazing how many things have lactose in them. Ramen without the seasoning
packets has none; add the seasoning packets, and you add a significant amount of
lactose. The breading on fried chicken at a local chain here in KC has lactose in it. I have
trouble finding antihistimines I can safely take, because most use lactose as an inactive
ingredient, and at least one brand that formerly didn't, does now. A popular diarrhea
medication contains lactose, and if you didn't know you were lactose intolerant and took
that medicine, you would be making the situation much, much worse for yourself. And I
have to be very wary of any product that lists "natural flavorings" as an ingredient.

I'm not lactose intolerant, but one of my cats apparently is, as he inevitably barfs ten minutes after consuming any quantity of milk (but not if it's that lactose-free "cat milk" put out by one of the pet food companies, though which one I can't remember right now). He does the same thing when he gets hold of the leftovers of some things I eat, leading me to believe that there must be lactose or something else he is allergic to in one of the ingredients. Of course, he craves milk and leftovers . . .
