This is unfortunate. The churches and the military were allies with liberalism in fighting for civil rights. Many religious people are also progressive. e.g. Jimmy Carter. Religion per se is not the enemy. The vile force is intolerant romantic nostalgia. There are many on the left who have just as much. The chief difference is that the loony romantics of the left do not operate a political party and every lever of power in a great nation.
