Just to be controversial, Why not think about reducing the number of tour events anyway, in both tours, from 4 to 3.
Here are some reasons why. Currently we have 5 major open tours a year (including nationals). We also have 5 mixed tournaments a year (including nationals) Added to that some teams play in the champions league 3 events An international tournament 1 week or 2 weekends That's 15 weekends of ultimate packed into our very short summer. This leaves very little time for other tournaments (fun, international) to fit themselves into a packed schedule. It also means we have to play a tour in April which has led to some questionable conditions over recent years. Finally there's no space for real life, holidays, or the other stuff that players do when they are not playing ultimate. It was also observed by some people at Worlds in Finland that the GB teams were all very tired. And I'm not just talking physically. What we can say, with some certainty, is that they didn't produce we they were capable of. Could this mental exhaustion be put down to the continued onslaught of tournaments, both winter and summer? Would three tours plus nationals be a bad thing? What would we actually lose? What would we gain? The Tour was exstablished in the days when there weren't so many tournaments and the tour it's self wasn't so tough, is it time it adapted to the changes? Go on have your say even if you don't usually post. I'm aware that this is a very open centric email and I'd be interested in a female opinion. Discuss. Tom Flyght Club #1 Voice of UK Ultimate -----Original Message----- From: UKUA Administrator [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: 25 August 2004 10:45 To: Britdisc Subject: [BD] Tournament Bids 2004/5 Forwarded on behalf of Chris Hughes: We have been late in organising the bidding process and Diary for next year. Many apologies to all those people who are waiting to bid. This is not a formal request for bids, just an early heads up. So all of you who want to bid for an event next year start talking to your venues now, and determine what dates they can do and what facilities they can offer. Please be aware that we can and are looking to split the tour venues whenever possible, so don't feel that you have to offer 16 pitch venues as a minimum. 8 pitches will serve the A tour, 8-12 will serve the B tour, and 6 - 8 pitches will serve the mixed tour. More details on what is required, and suggested dates will come out in the beginning of September, so try to get as many possible options out of the venues before then. The closing dates for bids will be the 27th of September. Therefore you need to get your skates on. Bids for indoors will also be taken at the same time. We will be looking for a spread of venues around the country for regionals, and a venue for nationals. The same closing date will apply and more details will also be made available soon. Teams and players should remember that a well organised venue and event should make a useful profit for the organisers and this can fund individuals or teams in their Frisbee playing antics. However in a policy decision made by the board, should by the end of the closing date there be insufficient bids for next year come forward then the number of tour events for next year will be reduced. More information soon.
