British Ultimate,

We are currently in the process of organising a UK Major League Ultimate
tournament, based on the idea tried out in the US in 2006.

The tournament will consist of five all-star regional teams, based on the
currently existing boundaries of UK University Ultimate (namely, South-West,
South-East, Midlands, North and Scotland).

Teams will comprise of a combination of the top University players from each
region, and the best open players also from that region. Guidelines and
restrictions on this format will follow.

Provisionally, the tournament will be held in Manchester on the 19th and 20
th of April this year, however this is subject to change. Exact details will
be released as soon as they are confirmed.

For those of you who are not aware, under MLU rules the game is refereed and
has a separate rule-set from Ultimate, the full version of which will be
provided to teams prior to the tournament, with plenty of time to get to
grips with them. We have been in contact with Ben Wiggins (founder of
www.thehuddle.org) and Ian McClellan (TD of the inaugural MLU tournament)
concerning the exact rules and any amendments they would suggest based on
having played under them in 2006.
Referees will have received several weeks of training prior to the
tournament.

Each player will receive a shirt as part of the player fee, featuring the
yet-to-be finalised MLU:UK logo, the name of your region, and number.

For an introduction to the rule amendments, the main changes can be seen on
the rec.sport.disc post about the US event here:

And the Ultivillage DVD of the U.S. MLU from 2006 can be ordered here:

Please note, this is not an attempt to change the rules of Ultimate, it is
firstly a chance to try out these alternative rules first hand, and secondly
a chance to prove the strength of your region at a new elite-level
tournament in the UK.

Yours,

The MLU:UK team
