I think this is a very bad piece of advice. Maybe you get beer out of it, possibly even good beer, but you take a totally unnecessary risk of infection. I believe one of the secrets for a good beer is a quick and effective cooling, and quick start of fermentation, before any other bugs can establish their presence in the wort.
