In my opinion the first thing that BSDCert Team should do is to establish
the topics for the exam(s). This should be the main concern, because
developing well organized topics should lead to the best solution for a
"study material".
It has been sad that there is no point in reinventing the wheel by competing
with already structered entities like O'Reilly, Sybex and others. I agree
with that, but there should be more then an outline of those topics. Many
advanced BSD users can find out on their own data regarding specific subjects,
but most of the beginners don't know where to look or how to look. Also, nobody
can know everything and this is the reason why even advanced users will benefit
from that knowledge.
So an curriculum covering basic to more advanced topics (where there is need of
advanced input, maybe good examples should do) and that also specifies
every little info ( books, tutorials, links) we have should be the best option.
For that BSDCert should gatter written material from every one who is willing
to
contribute and with efforts by BSDCert committee there should be plenty of
resources
to develop and organize a nice guide for every certification. Collected
materials
can be audited and so on ... (adding references to man pages, existing guides)
