Because it has always been so, and you, according to you earlier
comment about "an effort is made sure it compiles under C++",

support to it. Paul Eggert later extended this original static C-
parserstack to becoming dynamic. Apparently is is used alos as C++
code automatically when invoking %union.
It has always been dynamic. Hans, I would appreciate if you
could stop given your view of the history of bison, as it's
way too often wrong.
You are definitely wrong about that: Paul wrote the dynamic
extensions, I recall.
