I compiled GRUB fine, and put it on a boot disk with no problem. Its
what I am using currently.

the problem arises when I try to install GRUB on the HD (in this case
the primary master)

I issue this command:

install (fd0)+1 (hd0) (hd0,0)/boot/grub/stage2 0x8000 p

but when I try to boot off the drive, it just hangs. almost
immediately. I don't get any text or anything.

I also tried:

install (fd0)+1 (hd0) (hd0,0)/boot/grub/stage2 0x8000 p /boot/grub/menu.lst

and it still hung. I then used that stage2 to create a boot disk and I
got the nice menu I built in the config file. This means that it
atleast was able to read stage2 and edit it.

another piece of info that is interesting is that I tried a variety of
install commands similar to the above and eventually when I gave up
LILO wouldn't install. It would just hang like GRUB did. I made a dos
boot disk and did the format /MBR command which fixed it so I could
install LILO. GRUB still wouldn't install.

Im using GRUB 0.5.91
