Guys, what are you tryng to do?! Accidentals that can overhang barlines are good for the look of the music. Don't you think that they help keeping rhythm as legible as possible? Look at attached Screenshot1 - in my opinion the gaps that appear there are unpleasant.
As for engraved examples mentioned in http://code.google.com/p/lilypond/issues/detail?id=1955 , they prove nothing. Please notice that in these examples the default distance between barline and first note is so big that there cannot be any overhang at all! (see attached) Also, Breitkopf example is in my opinion badly typeset, so we shouldn't take it into account anyway.
I might have missed something in the discussion, but honestly i don't see any case in which the overhang would be bad.
Actually, the only applicable example is here http://code.google.com/p/lilypond/issues/detail?id=2066#c3 and it shows overhang.
