I don't know if that would be an accurate assumption, Niall can concur as he is more in tune with what is installed on livecd as a minumum. Current Xserver on sparc is XSun, I don't think Xorg is available yet, I could be wrong Alan can you clarify ?
Either way as long as there is an Xserver delivered (Xsun or Xorg), Gnome should pretty much function the same on sparc as X86 as far as installation is concerned.
