Reference Guide

The switch to alternative browsers is a big topic in the Web design world as more people are switching to standards-compliant browsers like Firefox, Mozilla, and Opera. More and more sites are working with the standards-compliant browsers as more designers and businesses become aware of these issues.
Internet Explorer has security issues, lacks standards support for CSS and the PNG image format, and it doesn't have popular features like tabbed browsing. (Other IE-based browsers offer tabbed browsing and enhanced features not in the original IE. However, these browsers are based on the IE engine, and inherit most or all of the problems you hear about with IE.)
The easiest way to handle these issues is to create standards-compliant sites and test them in IE. Those needing help can get it from Jeffrey Zeldman's Designing with Web Standards. You can also check the Web Standards Project Web site for the latest news and information on designing with standards. Regularly check the InformIT Web Design blog for the latest info on browsers.
