This week in the Java industry, all the news is about Sun releasing Java 5.0 (Tiger). Tiger adds many sorely missed features and touts itself as the most stable and highest quality JDK released yet. Kudos to the hard working guys at Sun for getting this out the door!

In the reference guide last week, we looked at loading images into a database BLOB, retrieving them, and serving them from a Servlet. This week we delve deeper into image manipulation and discover how to generate image thumbnails in memory and load them into the database.

We have a sample chapter from Eclipse Kickstart that demonstrates how to use the Eclipse debugger to analyze standalone and remote Java code.

Spotlight: Bestselling Book

Find out why this book is so popular! Requirements, along with other outputs from the requirements activity, are potent project management tools. In Requirements-Led Project Management, Suzanne and James Robertson show how to use requirements to manage the development lifecycle. They show program managers, product and project managers, team leaders, and business analysts specifically how to: use requirements as input to project planning and decision-making; determine whether to invest in a project; deliver more appropriate products with a quick cycle time... and plenty more.
