What exactly does this mean? And when you say 'such things as...' what are
the other things you take a 'pragmatic' approach to? Mooring at lock
approaches? On water points? Breaking the speed limit? Mooring on bends?
Leaving the paddles open? etc etc?
You see, the thing is that when what you start talking about taking a
'pragmatic' rather than a 'rules based' approach to anything, you create the
conditions for conflict. One person's pragmatism is another's
bloodymindedness. And that's why we have rules. In society generally as much
as on the canals.
