I guess the average consumption is actually about 200 litres/year/boat. The additional tax per litre is about 80 p - 40 p = 40 p So the total additional tax is actually ~£(30,000 + 15,000) * 200 * 0.40 = £3.6 million. We should simply insist on the deal Dutch boaters got when red for pleasure craft propulsion was outlawed there a few years ago. In exchange, navigation charges were eliminated. So, the idea is that the extra revenue the UK government is going to get from boats' having to use white should be given to BW so it won't have to raise its charges or cut its maintenance. Seems fair to me. And an entirely reasonable position for SOW to put to that nice Mr Brown, who surely wouldn't want boaters to be hurt twice in one winter. Adrian Adrian Stott 07956-299966
