I think for safty the bridge should be over the lock at all times, as their is no gate or rails to stop anyone falling in and as the cruiser club with the club house have a lot of trafic crossing and the general public watching would have no barrier. Two thing I did notice on my trip to Herford for the new year was NO sign for the navegation for the Hertford lock No.1 at the turn off, for hirer boat that is a must and and second the lock No.1 that has one top paddle work water leaks out faster than it is filling so on our trip thought it took 3 men and one lady my wife to open it.
