You *must* have something that will kill bacteria (or promote the use of 
good bacteria).  Around 35% of the dry weight of faeces is bacteria 
(variable water content).  You do not want them to multiply - as the tank is 
sealed, then it's possible for the oxygen to be slowly removed by some 
bacteria, then allowing the more nasty anaerobes to start growing - which 
will lead to serious unwanted gas production, and may well be hazardous.
