Hi,

I do find these sort of discussions go round and round. We all live in a
capitalist society and enjoy the benefits of the same and while some of the
suggestions that people make have a very good and strong ethical base they
really do not fit in with the capitalist society that we live, nearly
everything we do/use/eat etc has a link and if you try to remove one of these
links you better have a very good substitute not some utopian ideal, as if you
did increase petrol to 1000 and paid 200 for each bus trip, you may find that
you could remove half of the buses because you will have put half of the
working population out of work as there will be no need for car manufacture,
repair, tyres etc etc.

This should make an interesting discussion

I'm obviously dumb at the moment, but I can't work out if you are
vigorously supporting me or violently disagreeing with me.

It's quite clear that you could have a revenue neutral way to get people
out of cars. Just tax fuel at £1000 a gallon and pay them £200 a trip
to use the bus. Adjust numbers to make it balance.

And if the Government always lie then how do we know that the objective
*is* to get people out of cars.
