It was a nice eclipse - the last for few years in England. From the superb
(amateur) astronomical photos on the yahoo astro forum sites it was clear sky
and good eclipse views from Saudi to Sweden and over to the USA. But (for once)
we in the UK got a good view too.
When eclipsed the moons colour is darker (reds etc.) if there is more
pollution in the atmosphere. This pollution increase ain't mans fault - it's
caused by the millions of tons of dust from really powerful volcanic eruptions
blasted up 50 miles or so which floats round up there for months on end. This
time it seems there was only average volcanic dust amounts and so we got
pleasant reds and greens seen through the binoculars or with the mark-one
eyeball. Saturn was nice too - the lumpy yellow star up by the eclipsed moon.

At least some standards are being maintained, even if only poetically
speaking. Next lunar eclipse might be an X-Linked PolyEthylene or
PolyButylene coloured disk in the sky.
Best make hay while the moon shines.
