Popularity is no indication of a good pub any more than it is a good TV programme, or a good book. When I said it was dreadful, it was because the ambiance which IS awful. It is - literally - one of those plastic pubs where ersatz canal 'memorabilia' is made of... well, plastic. However, since you mention the beer, it's OK mainly because it's mainly keg and lagers which you can't really mess up. On my one and only visit to see the place I had a pint from the pump - Tiger, I think it was - that I had to take back, so badly kept was it. And the reports I've had from friends and relations - remember, I'm a Leicestershire lad - are that the food's execrable : pies not defrosted properly, chips barely cooked etc etc. This is not cheap, even by our London standards. Food you throw away is the most expensive you can buy. There are much better places to eat at Foxton. Steve [Non-text portions of this message have been removed]
