Actually 3 mph is very slow on most canals - one of the slowest, the
chesterfield managed this speed just. This trip includes some of the
deepest canals on the system, BCN main line, Shroppie, T+M and so
nearly 4 mph can be managed with little problem - of course it
actually needs the throttle set right! (and remember to slow down for
moored boats...)

Most boaters, however, lose the time in the locks trying to get the
boat into them, or by not locking ahead.

As far as first time hirers go - I would not recommend doing anything
so ambitious - it was just there to show it is possible if you really
wanted to do it!

Just remember to have fun what ever you end up doing,

Mike
