To comply with advice from my solicitor Uncle Mort's stern rope has
been shortened to 2 foot 3 inches. And is lighter than air.

But seriously though, I have not done much single handed boating since
I am blessed with fit and obedient crew. The odd bit I have done was
very satisfying and if I could rely on the canals being quieter I
would invest time to hone my skills. In the meantime on flights such
as Atherstone we have practiced "half single handed locking" which is
probably what most crews do.

Mrs B gets the lock ready, I chug in and close "my gate". She opens
the appropriate paddles and moves on to the next lock. I tidy up as I
leave.
