I take mine off...not a lot of need for it when you are blatting away for 5 
hours crossing Lough Ree.
New TNC (I) recuits get presented with a solo experience:
a) Lough Ree
b) Tiller
c) Charts
d) Binoculars
e) Occasional brews
f) Waterproofs
g) Occasional navigation hints
